Practical Tips for Building SELF-Esteem

Self Esteem= confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self respect

I’ve spent enough time with shaky self esteem to know that there’s only one way to build it: PRETEND! Lie! Delude yourself!

Okay that’s an exaggeration, but seriously, in my experience you can’t really count on anyone to help you build your self esteem.

WHY?

We humans just don’t care. We don’t have time to help someone stop feeling sorry for themselves. And even when we do, exhausting.

I’m sure you’ve had that one friend who always has something new to complain about. I know you secretly want to tell her to shut up and find a better man, or job, or whatever. But we won’t go down that road.

My self esteem isn’t exactly where I want it yet, but it’s getting there.

So Today I just wanted to share a few tips I’ve experimented with that have helped me to build my self esteem.

Ready? Let’s go!

DECIDE TO BUILD YOUR OWN SELF ESTEEM-It’s all on you, boo! No one is going to build your self esteem for you. So, in order to build your self esteem its going to have to start with your desire, coupled with your firm decision to build it. You must take action that is IN LINE WITH this goal.

POLICE YOUR MIND—WHEN YOU SLIP UP AND DOUBT YOURSELF—REPLACE THE WORDS

You do not have to accept or agree with every thought that enters your mind. When you hear thoughts in your head which go against what you want to experience, don’t panic. Just stop, take notice, and create a new thought which is based in self belief instead of self doubt. This will get easier over time IF you make a HABIT of it.

WRITE A LIST OF POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF, AND PUT IT IN YOUR DAILY VIEW

This is an easy way to trick your subconscious mind into acceting your new belief system. What you SEE, becomes your REALITY. Therefore, put words and hrases around you that adhere to confidence and self love. For instance, my screensaver on my desktop computer says, “self love always,” as a reminder that I must love myself.

LISTEN TO CONFIDENCE AFFIRMATIONS BEFORE BED

LISTEN TO I LOVE MYSELF BY KEAIRA LASHAE

This woman is my favorite fitness instructor ever. This song embodies positive affirmations which will certainly lift your spirit.

Talk nice to your water, AND THEN DRINK IT

Speak life over the things you consume. This is the same thing you do when you “say grace,” or “appreciate your food.” Anything that you are placing in your mouth, becomes you. So speak beautiful things over your water and food. Don’t just go through the motions, either. Truly mean it.

DANCE IN THE MIRROR

This is not only fun and healthy, but it promotes self acceptance.

JOIN TOASTMASTERS

This is on my bucket list for this year 🤞🏾

TAKE SELFIES

Because duh, right?

KEEP UP WITH YOUR GROOMING AND HYGIENE

I know this is self explanatory, but if you put a little extra oomph into your grooming habits, it can really boost your self esteem. It’s a way of telling yourself, I’m worth the effort.

MAKE TIME FOR SELF PAMPERING ON A REGULAR BASIS

Spa? Massage? Pedicure? Hair salon? Whatever you want or need as it pertains to pampering, make sure you are getting it! ❤️

So what other ways do you boost your confidence and keep it up? Share some tis in the comments.

  1. Wonderful post! As someone who was bullied in school and who has, in the past, struggled with low self-esteem, I couldn’t agree more! Like you, I also had to fake it to make it because, as you say, nobody else will help you build self-esteem, it all starts with you. No truer words ever spoken! Brilliant!
