I remember throwing a party, or trying to, when I was 21 and only a couple of people showed. *face palm*
You know what that taught me? Ain’t nobody gonna stop my shine.
Yesterday was my birthday. It was a pretty typical day for me, and it wasn’t until the very end of it that I realized…I loved EVERY STINKING MOMENT OF IT.
I slept in a little, did some novel writing, spoke with my mother and grandmother, opened gifts, played Just Dance on the x-box, played with my son(and other various mom duties), and then went out to eat with my son, husband, and good friend.
So pretty much I had a typical day.
BUT…
I won’t lie. There was a small part of me, breathing down my neck like a fire-mouthed dragon, telling me that I was being lame.
That I needed to do something wacky, crazy, out of the ordinary. But then I realized that everyday of my life is already out of the ordinary…because I MAKE IT SO.
I had to accept that I actually find pleasure in the simplest of things. My family, being a mother, writing, connecting with others, these are my values. I don’t have to pretend to be something different than who I am—-so I had to tell that nagging voice to hush!
So in your life, don’t forget that everyday can be as magical(or not) as you want it to be, and it doesn’t depend on what you’re doing or what you have. It depends on how you decide to FEEL…regardless of what’s going on around you.
Quarantine has made our lives a lot different, but one thing I can take away from it is understanding more about my true VALUES, and what truly matters to me.
What about you? Ever had a wonderfully boring birthday? Or am I the only weirdo who values the mundane? 😹
Let me know!
